The SJMS CSR Society has once again lent a helping hand to support the educational needs of underprivileged students within the Kalkuda and Valaichenai Educational Divisions. A seminar was held on 11 and 12 October at the Vakarai Maha Vidyalayam, in the Tamil medium, for the students facing the GCE O/Level examination this year. Approximately 450 students from nine schools representing Kathiraveli, Kattamurachankulam, Ammadanaweli, Panichankeni, Kayankeni, Madurankulam, Vakarai, Oddamavadi and Valaichenai areas attended the seminar. A seminar was organised in the Sinhala medium for students under the Valaichenai Educational Division, who were facing the GCE O/Level examination this year. The seminar was held on the 11 and 12 October at the Aselapura Maha Vidyalaya. Approximately 150 students from five schools representing the Seevenapitiya, Mannampittya, Welikanda, Aselapura and Singhapura areas participated in the seminar. Teachers from Royal College and D.S. Senanayake Maha Vidyalaya contributed in enhancing the knowledge of these underprivileged children. English, Science and Mathematics were taught at this program. Model questions and answers were discussed and the students were also advised on how to face the exam with confidence and how to manage the time allocated for the paper. Sincere gratitude is extended to the Sri Lanka Army for extending their support once again, by providing food and transport for the participants from the Kathiraveli, Kattamurachankulam, Ammadanaweli, Panichankeni, Kayankeni, Madurankulam, Oddamavadi and Valaichenai areas and also the students from the Seevenapitiya, Mannampittya, Welikanda and Singhapura areas. Special thanks go to Brigadier Nanda Hathurisinghe and Col. G.B.W.M.R.K.R. Bandara for coordinating the program.
