SLT and Asia Foundation continues ‘spreading the wealth of knowledge’ for 10th consecutive year

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT), in collaboration with The Asia Foundation, conducted a book distribution program at the Military Academy in Diyatalawa recently. This was yet another book distribution carried out under SLT’s major corporate social responsibility initiative ‘Spreading the wealth of knowledge’, whereby the company, working in conjunction with The Asia Foundation, distributes books and other educational materials to libraries in a range of institutes across the island.



A total of 573 books, with a worth exceeding Rs. 1.7 million were distributed to the academy during the book distribution program held in April 2013. The books were formally handed over by Uva Province SLT DGM Samantha Jayasinghe to Sri Lanka Military Academy Commandant Brigadier Indunil Ranasinghe.

Books for Asia – Director Anton Nallathamby and Books for Asia – Program Manager Chatrini Weeratunge also participated at the function, on behalf of The Asia Foundation.

SLT and The Asia Foundation have been conducting these book distribution programs since the year 2004. SLT considers it an important investment in the community by providing access to information, education and English Language skills for students, teachers as well as professionals. Since the start of the Spreading the wealth of knowledge program, books have been distributed to various institutions including schools, universities, vocational institutes as well as other organisations, with an annual distribution of over 100,000 books. In the year 2012, the distribution was 122,414 books.
