Sri Lanka Navy and Asiri Hospitals conduct heart clinic at Boossa

DE SILVA The Sri Lanka Navy’s Southern Area Command together with Asiri Hospitals Matara and Asiri Surgical Hospital PLC conducted a Heart Clinic at the Shri Jayawardenarama Viharaya at Pitiwella, Boossa recently. The clinic, which was attended by more than 500 villagers of all age groups had their Body Mass Index (BMI) calculated; were tested for blood sugar, blood pressure and were examined by a team of doctors from Asiri Hospitals and the Sri Lanka Navy.  An ECG test was done if the need arose and those patients were referred to Dr. Vivek Guptha Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon at Asiri Surgical Hospital PLC. “All the tests and a consultation with Dr. Guptha would cost more than Rs. 5000 per person,” said Asiri Hospital Matara General Manager Nalin Pasqual who coordinated the program. Villagers had gathered at the Shri Jayawardenaramaya as early as 6 a.m. The clinic which commenced at 8:30 a.m. was scheduled to end at 12:30 p.m. but went on till past 2:30 p.m. as there were more than the initially expected 500 persons but Dr. Guptha and the team from Asiri Hospitals did not disappoint anyone. Sri Lanka Navy Southern Area Commander Rear Admiral D. E. C. Jayakody, Deputy Area Commander S. M. D. K. Samaraweera, Sri Lanka Navy’s Southern Command Medical Officer Lieutenant Dr. L. Buddhika and Executive Officer Commander A. G. Suriyarachchi organised the medical camp. Doctors;   Karandeniya, G. I. D. Silva, Iyara Firoze, S. R. Samaraweera, Nandalal Ranjith , Dietician Amal Firoze and staff from Asiri Surgical Hospital and Asiri Hospital Matara led by Asiri Surgical Hospitals Senior Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Vivek Guptha conducted the clinic.
