SriLankan Cares spreads its warmth to needy children

Spreading its wings of care to the needy children, SriLankan Cares, the CSR arm of SriLankan Airlines, initiated a project to donate computers to 10 orphanages in the country.

The project, started from Don Bosco Boys’ Home, Kalutara and concluded at the Boys’ Home in Manipay, was assisted by the information technology arm of the Airline, SriLankan IT. This endeavour is expected to improve computer literacy among youth and children who do not have the means to enrol themselves to IT courses.

Since its inception in 2003, SriLankan Cares has been focussing on the education and welfare of children throughout the country. It supported the expansion of Meepagama Jayanthi Maha Vidyalaya at Kalawana, Ratnapura after it was destroyed by floods, and rebuilt Al Bahriyah Maha Vidyalaya at Kalmunai, Batticaloa, a school of 1,500 children that had been devastated by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. SriLankan Cares also donated Rs. 18.5 million to upgrade a school in Debarawewa up to the 10th standard.

Contributing to the development of National Child Psychiatry Service, SriLankan Cares recently signed an MoU with the Ministry of Health to build a multi-disciplinary Children’s Psychiatric Ward at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital, Colombo.
