  • The Kingsbury team sets an optimistic reach towards development through CSR activities
Hospitality service providers around the world are trying to come up with new spins on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and The Kingsbury is no exception. After setting up an energetic and enthusiastic Green Team for the hotel’s long-term development, the team has set high optimism in generating CSR values through the industry. In commemoration of World Children’s Day on 1 October 2013, The Kingsbury’s Green Team joined hands with the Lion’s Club and the Independent Television Network in donating school bags and food packs to 200 school children from the north and east of Sri Lanka, who were unfortunate victims of the war that ravaged the isle for nearly three decades. This event was energetically driven by The Kingsbury CSR team, lead by Anura Wethalawe, whose dedication towards this donation made it a huge success. This occasion was held at Leisure World where the children experienced a time full of fun and laughter, whilst art and singing competitions, games and other fun activities gave them cherishable memories to take home. Glamorous faces, smiles and enthusiasm displayed by them reflected the feelings of these children. The Kingsbury has unified all initiatives of CSR under the umbrella brand of “Sustainability” to encourage development in the corporate and hospitality fields. The campaign strives to properly educate its stakeholders, inspire and engage its employees, enjoin its business partners and align with the local community initiatives so that CSR can be used as a more significant tool towards development. The Kingsbury has developed a commitment towards the development of those projects that accord optimum regard to environmental concerns in terms of; design, planning, construction and operation. The hotel also portrays sensitivity towards monitoring the interests of the local population; particularly with regard to the safeguarding of their traditions, culture and future development. In addition, The Kingsbury has initiated practices a responsible attitude towards energy conservation in terms of the reduction and recycling of waste; the control of sewage disposal, air-emissions and pollutants, the reduction in use of such unfriendly products; and the reduction of noise and visual pollution.
