SLIIT MSc Architecture offers ideal platform for leadership roles in global architectural education

SLIIT’s MSc Architecture program, conducted by the SLIIT School of Architecture offers a cutting-edge postgraduate degree designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the global architectural landscape.

The SLIIT MSc Architecture program is developed to meet the evolving needs of the architectural profession. Graduates will also be well-prepared to even pursue further research at the PhD level.

The prestigious two-year Master’s degree is offered in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) in the UK. The program is fully accredited by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and holds the status of a Candidate Program by the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA).

In addition, the SLIIT School of Architecture has achieved international acclaim, being recognised in the Global INSPIRELI World Architecture University Ranking 2022-2023. The school is ranked among the top 100 globally, securing the 22nd position out of 1,320 institutions worldwide.

The students have the opportunity to directly register with SLIIT and LJMU for both years of study since the entire degree program is offered by LJMU ensuring a comprehensive educational experience.

Moreover, students having an LJMU BSc (Hons) Architecture degree or any qualification equivalent to RIBA Part 1 or SLIA Part 1, or any other bachelor’s level degree (minimum 3 years) in Architecture are also eligible to apply for the MSc Architecture postgraduate degree at SLIIT.

The curriculum is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in the global architectural landscape. In addition, graduates will be well-prepared to work as Junior Architects under Chartered Architects, join Government institutions, or pursue further research and education up to the PhD level. With the MSc Architecture degree, students can also progress towards the Chartered Examinations (Part 3) conducted by SLIA, after qualifying Part-1 and II, following the required monitored training period.

The MSc Architecture postgraduate degree ensures students are equipped with the development of complex design proposals and an in-depth understanding of contemporary architectural issues. They are also proficient in a wide range of visual, graphical, oral, and written media for analysing and explaining design proposals. 

The program equips students with expertise in evaluating materials, processes, and techniques applicable to complex architectural designs and building construction, integrating them into practical design solutions. Students are schooled in research skills to produce original work in architectural history, theory, culture, and technology. They also gain a deep understanding of the architect’s role in procurement, building production, legislation, and financial feasibility.
