In a world where mathematics often feels confined to textbooks, UnMath School is redefining math education through a hybrid curriculum that encourages real-world application.
Launched in 2012, this South Asian and Middle East-based e-learning platform is making waves across India, Nepal, and select Middle Eastern countries, and it's now set to expand its educational horizons to Sri Lanka.
Mathematics has long been the bedrock of critical thinking, decision-making, and solving real-world problems. UnMath School, co-founded by Divesh Bathija and Raashi Bathija, is on a mission to make math not just understandable but exciting for students worldwide. “Our hybrid math curriculum is tailored to K-12 schools globally,” says UnMath School co-founder Divesh Bathija. “We believe that math should be experienced, not just memorised.”
The heart of UnMath's curriculum lies in its experiential approach. Students are encouraged to explore complex math concepts while gaining access to real-world scenarios. This approach fosters design thinking and decision-making skills, making math more engaging and relevant. As Bathija puts it: “Come experience math with us.”
UnMath School offers a wide array of programs to cater to diverse learning needs: Math Clinic: Providing students with a hands-on, interactive math learning experience; Experiential Maths Workshops: Engaging workshops that bring math to life through practical activities; and Math Story: A unique initiative that tells the story of math and its applications.
For schools looking to implement innovative math programs, UnMath offers: UnMath District: A comprehensive program designed for schools to enhance math education; Green Math Lab: Learning with sustainability in mind, incorporating the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle; Corporate Math: Bridging the gap between academia and industry, offering students insights into the corporate world; Math Debate: A platform for students in grades 6 to 9 to showcase their math skills and critical thinking; Teacher Training: A tailored program to empower educators with innovative math teaching methods and Math Talk: A global initiative to spread the universal language of math through engaging sessions.
“Mathematics is a language spoken by none but misinterpreted by all. UnMath aims to change that by encouraging students to experience math in their everyday lives, fostering a deeper understanding of its applications,” said Bathija.
With a presence in over six countries, active engagement with over 300 schools, training of over 12,000 teachers, and the transformation of 60,000+ students into enthusiastic math learners, UnMath School is undoubtedly reshaping the landscape of math education.
“The basis of Experiential Math is to look at different topics through one’s own experiences and recognise the power of math behind each and everything. UnMath School is paving the way for a brighter, math-savvy future where mathematics transcends textbooks and becomes an integral part of daily life,” Bathija added.
