The British Council IELTS Partner Forum was held on 27 July at the Kings Court, Cinnamon Lakeside. A key highlight of the event was the launch of the British Council IELTS practice book which will be exclusive to students registering for IELTS at the British Council. This book includes a CD for listening practice and aims to train students on all four skills related to IELTS. In addition to the student support, the British Council provides a range of exclusive services to the IELTS registration centre network. This includes support towards teacher development, student development and promotional support.
The British Council in Sri Lanka works with over 60 IELTS Registration centres which include educational institutes, migration agents and IELTS tutors across the country. British Council IELTS Registration centres are in 14 districts currently. Every candidate registering through any of the registration centres is eligible for the free study support offered by the British Council. The award ceremony comprised of awards on three different categories namely; Corporate, Institutional a n d I n d iv i d u a l . J. W. Gnanathilake Jayasekera was awarded Partner of The Year in the Individual category, whilst Unitech Institute of Vocational and Trade Training was awarded Partner of The Year in the Institutional category.
The Corporate winner in this category was ICBT campus. The re gional winners included ICBT Colombo Campus (Western Province), J.W. Gnanathilake Jayasekera (Southern province) Headway School of Languages Ltd. (Eastern province), British College of English (Northern province), and ICBT Kandy Campus (Central province). Certificates of Recognition for the Individual category were awarded to Dr. Jayasiri Perera (Gold), K. Nagaraja (Gold) and J.W. Gnanathilake Jayasekera (Platinum). The Institutional category was won by Unitech Institute of Vocational and Trade Training (Gold) wh i l s t Corporate category winners were Headway School of Languages Ltd. (Bronze), ICBT Kandy Campus (Silver), ICBT Campus – Nugegoda (Silver) Jeewa Education (Gold) and ICBT Colombo Campus (Platinum). Speaking at the event IELTS Manager Business Development and Client Relations Shafick Jiffrey said that IELTS registration centres of the British Council are an important extension of services for IELTS candidates. “We expect that IELTS registration centres are able to give a customer journey as close as possible to that they would receive directly from the British Council.
All candidates who register through partners get the same value added services we offer. We monitored this engagement level of the partners this year in doing so and introduced a new award – Best Customer engagement award,” Shafick said. The Best customer engagement award was won by DMI Computer Education, Jaffna. IELTS is a measure of the English language proficiency of people who want to work or study abroad. The test is available in over 1,100 locations across the world across 48 dates a year.
