ESOFT Metro Campus provides fully-fledged computer labs worth Rs. 20 m to 15 Govt. schools

ESOFT Metro Campus has so far provided new computer laboratories worth Rs. 20 million to 15 Government schools across the country. These fully-fledged computer labs with internet and other modern features were donated to these schools under the ‘E-Thilina’ community service oriented initiative in partnership with Sirasa Television.

Under this Esoft-Sirasa collaboration, computer labs have been provided to Ibbagamuwa Kumbukwewa Maha Vidyalaya, Polonnaruwa Sevamuktha Kandoru Navoda Maha Vidyalaya, Ahangama Dombagoda Maha Vidyalaya, Puttalam Kottukachchi Maha Vidyalaya, Welimada Uduhawara Vidyalaya, Minuwangoda Ranasinghe Maha Vidyalaya, Rikkillagaskada Vidyakara Maha Vidyalaya, Baduraliya Hedigalla Janapada Vidyalaya, Ratnapura Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Buttala Dutugemunu Primary School, Horana Sripali Vidyalaya, Werella M.D. Yapa Maha Vidyalaya, Galgamuwa U.B. Wanninayake National School, Narammala Mayurapada Vidyalaya and Panadura Mahanama Navodhya School.

Expressing his views on this salutary community service project, ESOFT Metro Campus Managing Director Dr. Dayan Rajapakse says: “Some government schools do not have computer laboratory facilities. In some others, the labs are either non-functional or their lab equipment is obsolete. In today’s context, information technology has become an integral part of everyday life, whether for professionals or for the average man on the street. It has become a fundamental factor in the day-to-day lives of every individual across the board. It was because of the significance information technology has attained that we partnered with Sirasa Television to launch the ‘E-Thilina’ initiative.

“We were able to provide fully-equipped computer laboratories to deserving schools by setting aside a part of the fees of students who enrol for higher education courses at the ESOFT Metro Campus. When a student enters our institution for higher studies, he or she indirectly contributes towards providing a computer lab to students of a poor rural school. Outlining the importance of information technology education, Dr. Dayan Rajapakse observed:

“Information technology professionals are also today highly rated and recognised by society on par with doctors, lawyers and engineers. To enter the medical, law or engineering spheres demand a substantial financial commitment plus time, energy and effort over an extended period. Even after spending a colossal amount of money and so much of time and energy to pass out, it takes a longer span to establish a name and reputation in the respective field and derive an income as a professional. 

On the other hand, a clever student in the information technology sphere who pursues a higher education study course at a reputed institution can, within a short period of one year, acquire a middle level qualification as a professional and earn a big salary in a corporate. While doing a job and earning a substantial income, they can continue their higher education and within the next two to three years qualify as a fully-fledged IT professional. There are ample job opportunities with attractive salaries for IT professionals both in Sri Lanka and overseas. 

“In addition, an accomplished software engineer can establish his own business without committing a big investment. In this backdrop, IT technology can be identified as the best option for students who plan to embark on higher studies after completing their school education.”
