Horizon Group Sri Lanka Chairman Upul Daranagama officially hands over the scholarships to Minister of Education Republic of Maldives Dr. Aishath Shiham

Horizon Campus, Sri Lanka’s only triple accredited private university awarded 24 undergraduate scholarships to the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education Scholarship scheme 2016.
The official handing over of 24 undergraduate degree scholarships to study in Horizon Campus, Sri Lanka took place at the Department of Higher Education of the Maldives Ministry of Education, Velaanaage, Male’ on Wednesday 15 June.
Horizon Group Sri Lanka Chairman Upul Daranagama officially handed over the scholarships to Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham and Deputy Minister of Education Azleen Ahmed, in the presence of Department of Higher Education Director Ibrahim Naseem, Department of Higher Education Director General Fathimath Amira and Horizon Campus Sri Lanka Vice Chancellor Professor Colin N. Peiris. Horizon College of Business and Technology Ltd. (Horizon Campus) Sri Lanka is a nationally and internationally recognised private higher education institute which offers 15 accredited degree courses to more than 400 students annually. It is recognised as a Degree Awarding Institute by the Ministry of Higher Education, Sri Lanka and recognised by University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka as a Private Higher Education Service Provider. Further, it is a Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities.
The Ministry of Education will have the discretion on the selection process. However, recipients must meet basic entry requirements. The selected recipients can study for a UGC Sri Lanka accredited Undergraduate Degree Courses from Bachelor of Education (Hons), B.Sc. (Hons) Business Management – HRM, Bachelor of Business Management (Hons) – Marketing or B.Sc. (Hons) in Information Technology. These scholarships will be valid from October 2016 intake.
Speaking at the occasion, Vice Chancellor Professor Colin N. Peiris highlighted how the ‘Triple Accredited’ status (recognition by Ministry of Higher Education, University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka and Association of Commonwealth Universities) of Horizon Campus guarantees students of a nationally and internationally recognised qualification, which will open doors to global career and further education opportunities.
Professor Peiris mentioned that the cordial discussions held between Deputy Minister of Education Azleen Ahmed, Department of Higher Education Director General Fathimath Amira and MQA CEO Mohamed Waheed Hussain in February was the genesis of this grant to the Ministry.
