SLIIT conducts workshops to make learning exciting experience for A/Level students

SLIIT, with the aim of boosting learning ability and making ‘learning and study’ an overall exciting experience, has conducted over 25 workshops for Advance Level students island-wide.

The school workshop series is a comprehensive yet ‘fun filled’ event which has been held over the past three years.

Rathnavali Balika Vidyalaya Gampaha, Sujatha Balika Vidyalaya, Matara, Dharmaraja College, Kandy and Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda are some of the schools which SLIIT has worked with in the recent past.

Explaining the rationale of the workshop, Dr. Theekshana Suraweera, founder of the ‘Edutainment Unlimited’ school workshop series noted, “With a rise in academic pressure and an increase in competition for university admissions, our secondary school students, especially children in the GCE (Advanced Level) classes are under severe stress and anxiety. This could be attributed to poor study skills, lack of knowledge on stress management and an unclear view on career path ways. Therefore, as a part of our corporate social responsibility initiative, we designed a workshop to address factors such as learning and study skills, confidence building, stress relief and relaxation exercise and study/career options after A/Levels.”

Mind mapping, time management, forgetting curve and a range of fulfilled activities to enhance team work and creativity are some of the items presented in the workshops.

This full day bilingual workshop which accommodates around 250 children is conducted free of charge as a CSR project of SLIIT to secondary school students.

“The feedback we have received from principals, teachers and the student who participated have been very positive. We hope to organise more workshops which will not only help students excel within the classroom but also help them succeed in their place of work,” noted SLIIT President/CEO Professor Lalith Gamage.
