Q: How did you enter a career in media?
A: When I was small, like many, I dreamt of becoming a pilot. However, my career dream took a drastic turn when I developed a great passion for compeering at various events in school and at private gatherings. That is how I started walking in a different direction and ended up in media as a news anchor. Now I have developed an inseparable passion for what I do – yet I wish to advance my career and step up into a managerial position in the media field.
Q: Why did you opt to follow an MBA after obtaining your CIM qualification?
A: Obtaining a postgraduate qualification before I turn 25 has been my dream. My long term target is to enter into a managerial role in the media field – thereby I can remain in the field of media but at the same time enter a more solid and well-paying position in the field. For this purpose, I need to be well equipped both academically and professionally. By completing an MBA, I think I will have better career prospects.
Q: Is there any specific reason why you chose the University of West London MBA at ANC?
A: I did a fair amount of research before I chose to study at ANC. The program looked really attractive. When I was inquiring about the ANC program, my former lecturers advised me to go ahead with that decision. I also have a few friends who had obtained the UWL MBA from ANC and they recommended me this program. I could clearly see their level of improvement and the perception of life after they completed their MBA. They showed professional and career growth – and advanced to better positions and salary scales. It motivated me to enroll in the program. Besides, UWL is a British qualification recognised globally with an impressive ranking – and there is nothing to debate about the quality and standards of the program offered here in the mirror model. It is admirable that ANC offers us the chance to obtain this British qualification right here in Sri Lanka – without us having to go abroad for postgraduate education.
Q: How do you describe your experience at ANC?
A: ANC has created a very conducive class atmosphere for studies – and it facilitates working individuals to take up evening or weekend classes. The group activities we do are also very helpful in the learning process. That is where we learn to work with a diverse group of people with different strengths and weaknesses. ANC also promotes a lot of networking events and organises a grand ball and various other events to help students connect with each other and with industry experts and professionals. Studying at ANC has been a life changing experience. It has taken my life to a better platform.
Q: Do you think this MBA is building the capacity you need to achieve your objectives in life?
A: Definitely. I am sure my MBA will be impactful in the future. I am already gaining the strength and knowledge I need for my professional development.
