Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera
Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera yesterday announced that he requested the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for further financial assistance for renewable energy integration, financing for domestic and commercial rooftop solar.
Taking to ‘X’ he noted that he met with JICA Senior Vice President Imoto Sachiko Tetsuya Yamada on Tuesday at the Ministry premises.
“We discussed the ongoing reforms of the electricity sector, renewable energy policy plans and future developments,” Wijesekera added.
He added that further assistance was requested via a JICA loan financing.
“I thanked JICA for its financial and technical assistance in setting up the Reforms Secretariat for the electricity sector reforms and infrastructure development for renewable energy,” he said.
The Reforms Office was opened at the Ministry to see through the restructure of the State-run Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).
The Government is seeking the support of international development agencies to restructure CEB which will be divided into eight separate companies and to set up a new power regulator.
