Rajitha Abeygunasekera, General Secretary of Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance
The Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance, an alliance that promotes sustainable energy and community welfare, held a press briefing at the Sri Lanka National Library Auditorium bringing to light their perspectives on investments in Renewable Energy in Sri Lanka.
Rajitha Abeygunasekera, the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance, stated, ‘The main aim of our organization is to promote the green economy and green energy. It is vital that we, as an island nation, utilise our natural resources to the greatest extent. Renewable energy is of utmost importance in this regard. There were many items discussed in parliament regarding this recently.
Kabir Hashim has asked in parliament for the Adani Group’s 500MW project to be delayed since the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has called for tenders for a 50 MW project to be added to the national grid. Hashim has stated that he learned of a proposed unit price of 7 cents (USD) through these tenders.
Kabir Hashim’s statement poses risks. There's both a potential loss of the 500MW project as well as a threat to bidder confidence in our procurement procedures for the 50MW project with a price reveal as such. This statement appears to be a mere political manoeuvre, lacking substance. Consequently, the Blue-Green Alliance views it as unfounded and detrimental to the citizens of the country”.
As the Sri Lanka Blue Green Alliance continues to spearhead meaningful dialogues and advocate for progressive policies, its collective voice resonates with hope and determination.
