The 2016 edition of the International Kite Festival just got a little more magical and vibrant through its association of Fanta Portello (a product of The Coca-Cola Company) as the principal sponsor of Sri Lanka’s highly anticipated kite festival. The ‘TV Derana Fanta Portella International Kite Festival’ culminated on high note, drawing attendance of approximately 500,000 spectators and participation from 2,500 participants in various categories.

The festival was held on 21 August at Galle Face Green with a special prize distribution ceremony. The cash prizes for the first, second and third spots in the ‘Most Vibrant Kite’ Category were presented by Coca-Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd. General Manager Dinesh Jadhav. The winning kite was a colourful and intricately designed piece and was selected by the company’s panel of judges.

Speaking about the association, Coca-Cola Sri Lanka Ltd. Managing Director Sonu Grover said: “Fanta Portello is a heritage brand that has been one of Sri Lanka’s most loved and enjoyed beverages for decades. It is all about fun and the indescribable feeling that comes with the magical mystical ‘black grape taste’ of Fanta Portello. She further added, “The international Kite Festival is a platform for thousands of local and foreign kite lovers to enjoy kite flying and is a marquee event in the cultural calendar of Sri Lanka. The association of a heritage brand like Fanta Portello fits perfectly with the International Kite Festival that represents heredity of kites wrapped up with creativity.”

She further added, “Through this association, Fanta Portello continues to play its role in bringing together some of the most creative and talented kite makers from the country on a common platform, driven by a common cause and connected by the common magical taste of Portello, to celebrate talent and creativity along with the rich cultural heritage of Sri Lanka; just like the way the international Kite festival has connected some of the country’s most diverse and bright talent for years. Hence, this association was a perfect fit for us.”

The festival is organised each year in an effort to showcase and further establish Sri Lanka’s kite culture. The festival is aimed at providing a platform for local kite enthusiasts to showcase their talents and simultaneously helps build Sri Lanka’s kiting industry.
