Art exhibition and sale on Saturday celebrating World Down Syndrome Day and World Autism Day

A special event will be held on 22 March to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and World Autism Day, featuring the talented trainees of the Shiranee Joseph de Saram Foundation (SJDSF). The art exhibition and sale will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SJDSF Centre, located at 25/7 Fifth Lane, D.M. Colombage Mawatha, Colombo 5.

Over 30 stunning art pieces created by SJDSF trainees will be on display, including vibrant landscape and abstract paintings that show the creativity and individuality of these incredible artists. The students have been supported by a long-standing volunteer, landscape artist Janaki Perera, who has played an instrumental role in nurturing their talent to express themselves.

These beautiful artworks will also be available for purchase, with the proceeds going to support the economic empowerment programs at SJDSF. Your support will help provide financial security, a sense of purpose, and dignity to individuals with intellectual disabilities, such as those with autism, Down syndrome, and other learning disabilities.

Founded in 1993, the Shiranee Joseph de Saram Foundation (SJDSF) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to creating a world where people with intellectual disabilities have access to education, expanded opportunities, and the chance to reach their full potential for independence. SJDSF offers Sri Lanka’s only structured supported employment program, training and supporting both employees and employers while providing continuous monitoring to ensure job retention. SJDSF trainees also work in the Foundation’s on-site workshop, manufacturing products like tie-dye t-shirts, bags, and jewellery. SJDSF ensures that its services are available to those in need, regardless of their financial resources.
