Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, High Commission of India, Colombo will be screening “Chak de India” a Shah Rukh Khan starrer sports action Hindi film (with English subtitles) at 6 p.m. on Friday 21 September at SVCC auditorium 16/2, Gregory’s Road, Colombo 07.
Chak De India is a 2007 Indian sports film, directed by Shimit Amin and produced by Aditya Chopra with a screenplay written by Jaideep Sahni, sports scenes choreographed by Rob Miller, and music by Salim-Sulaiman. It tells a fictional story about the Indian women’s national field-hockey team which was inspired by the team’s win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games. After failing to score the winning goal, Kabir Khan (Shah Rukh Khan), Captain of the Men’s Hockey Team is blamed for the team’s loss and fired. Years later he is given a chance to salvage his reputation, when he is offered the position as coach of the Women’s Hockey Team.
The film has bagged many awards including Filmfare Award for Best Actor, National Film Awards for Best Popular Film, IIFA Award for best film and many more. The film was also screened as a part of Independence Day Film festival in 2016 commemorating 70th Independence Day of India.
