The Talent Show of the Colombo School of Arts and Sciences (CSAS) – ‘Connection Issues’ was held on 21 January at the Namel Malani Punchi Theatre. The concert, which was held as a fundraiser to repair essential incubators at the Badulla District Regional Hospital, was attended by the parents, well-wishers, and the school alumni, who were happy to see the talented students on stage. Sri Lanka Cambridge Assessment International Education Coordinator Panchalika Kulatunge graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The night was off to a wonderful start with performances that were emotional, entertaining, as well as educational, which showcased the range and creativity of the students at CSAS as they continued to engage with their audience throughout the show. It also included a few alumni who added to the wonderful mix of talent. The show called for much effort and dedication from the students and staff at CSAS, and managed to successfully raise the necessary funds to repair the incubators at the Badulla District Hospital – the sole hospital in the Uva province that can provide care for premature babies. The announcement was made at the very end of the show as a gift to the students who had worked so hard and were taking their final bow on stage.
On her experience as a performer of the talent show, CSAS student Krishotha Nivanan said: “After so many days of practice that now feel like a fever dream, I’m super proud of everyone, from the kids to the seniors. I’m grateful to my teachers for this opportunity, which has helped me grow. I have absolutely no regrets at all. All those tiring days were really worth it for the applause we got.” CSAS Principal Shaleeka Jayalath was proud of the journey her students had undertaken. “The show tonight marked the culmination of a journey. A journey of creativity, of pushing boundaries, and of team spirit. More importantly, this event marked the sense of family that is ever present at CSAS, and our students’ commitment to those less fortunate than themselves.”
“Connection Issues” reflected the remarkable dedication and creative efforts of the students along with their drive for philanthropy and positive social change. The unique educational program at CSAS encourages students to expand their boundaries beyond academia, so they can explore and be active and intelligent participants in society at large. The Colombo School of Arts and Sciences hopes to return next year with yet another show that will explore the talents of its students, so make sure to keep an eye out for this interesting and talented bunch of youngsters!
