The Soup Bowl’s biggest charity event of the year, ‘Dance the Night Away with the Oldies – Gatsby Style’, an event especially organised for senior citizens living in Elders Homes will be hosted on Saturday, 23 September at IdeaHell, 45/6, Alwis Place Colombo 03 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This event will be the first of its kind for elders in Sri Lanka, and the first of many to come, aimed at improving quality of life and bringing a sense of belonging for all our community’s most feeble and sometimes destitute citizens who lead very quiet and lonely lives. The night is organised to provide an evening of sheer entertainment and each elderly citizen will be assigned a volunteer to ensure they are engaged and looked after throughout the evening.
The Gatsby themed night will have music, games and a delicious buffet meal for 150+ senior citizens from various homes in and around Colombo at IdeaHell, a venue set to be outfitted in the fashion of the roaring twenties – complete with flapper dresses, silk gloves, tuxedos, top hats to revel the night away under swinging glitter of disco balls. This event is one of the three big events planned out for year 2017.
The Soup Bowl (TSB) is a hospitality ministry established in January 2014 to meet a basic need: the provision of a nutritious meal to the less fortunate. To date, the charity has served over 1,000 home-made, nutritious meals to street people, orphans and the elderly in and around Colombo. Its mission however, is not limited to a meal. At the core of TSB’s mission is the belief in leaving beneficiaries a pleasant memory of fellowship and camaraderie. Every month TSB visits a home with a meal. The group designs an activity depending on the age and people group, taking along games, décor and a group of volunteers. The activities conducted centre around creating a sense of self-importance, and participation, such as artwork, singing and dancing for the elderly, and dancing, singing, face-painting and dressing up, for kids.
TSB has partnered with Gudppl, IdeaHell for the venue through Derana, Moreish Cupcakes and Esquared Events & Moments. The organisation is reaching out to more individuals and organisations that are passionate about making a positive and meaningful impact through charity.
