The fourth consecutive K-POP world festival is to be held on 14 July at 4 p.m. at the Bishop’s College Auditorium, bringing the artistic Korean culture and entertainment to the Sri Lankan society.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Heon Lee said: “In recent years, Sri Lankan people have shown a keen interest in Korea and its culture through the K-dramas and K-Pop that the young generation of many countries in the world enjoys immensely.”
The Ambassador hence noted that the embassy in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs and the Sri Lankan Rupavahini Corporation had organised the K-POP festival as a response to the general public’s love for the Korean culture.
“I hope that this festival will help you to get to know and better understand K-POP, thereby further strengthening the close friendship between Sri Lanka and Korea. It is a pleasure to open for you such an exciting evening,” he added.
The opening ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. and will be followed by the main program which is to include the K-POP world festival part one, an intermission on special stage and the K-POP world festival part two.
The award ceremony will commence at 7:30 p.m. alongside a raffle draw that has been specially organised for the audience. Admission for the festival will be free but will be on a first come, first serve basis.
Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Affairs Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe stated: “With the gaining popularity of K-POP in Sri Lanka, especially among the youth, this event organised by the embassy will give an opportunity to K-POP enthusiasts to showcase their talents.”
The shortlisted participants who applied to partake in the event earlier this year, will perform live under the two categories which are singing and dancing and the winners selected on 14 July will be awarded the opportunity to participate at the 2018 Changwon K-Pop World Festival which is to be held in Korea, in October this year.
