The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka held a concert performed by Sumie Kaneko, Player of Koto and Shamisen (traditional Japanese musical instruments) on 28 September at the auditorium of the Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo.
The concert attracted hundreds of audience who enjoyed the melody of traditional Japanese musical instruments. During the concert Kaneko also played the popular song by Sri Lankan legend Pandith W.D. Amaradewa, ‘Shantha me rae yame’ and impressed the Sri Lankan audience.
The Government of Japan previously provided Cultural Grant for the improvement of equipment for practical training to the Department of Mass Media Studies, Sri Palee Campus, Colombo University, worth Rs. 1.2 million.
This concert opened a new page of cooperation between Japan and the University of Colombo.
