The English Drama Society of Royal College in association with the Old Royalists’ Association of Dramatists will present ‘The Three Musketeers’, a timeless classic by Alexandre Dumas, on 25, 26 and 27 January at the Lionel Wendt Theatre – Colombo at 7 p.m.
The play is brought to life with timely twists of side-splitting comedy, romance and merriment by Ken Ludwig’s remarkable stage adaptation. We follow the journey of the young and at times foolhardy D’Artagnan, as he sets off for Paris with the hopes of following his father’s footsteps and becoming a Musketeer, oblivious as he was to the adventurous fate that awaits.
It is directed by Ashiq Dole who is a member of the Old Royalists Association of Dramatists of Royal College, Colombo 07.
The Royal College cast is primarily made up of novices and there are a few experienced actors who have represented College at competitions such as the annual inter-school Shakespeare competition while the main female roles are taken up by young actresses from schools such as Ladies’ College, Bishop’s College, Visakha Vidyalaya, and Lyceum International School, Wattala.
Among the cast members are actresses who have won best actress awards and nominations. We have a three-time award winner in the Shakespeare competition and people who have got countless nominations. While there are no seasoned thespians, there are experienced school-level actors and actresses.
Athos is played by MadaraThalduwa, Aramis, played by Pravin Jayasundere, Cardinal Richelieu, played by Kaif Sally, Milady de Winter, played by Amaya Fernando, D’artagnan Sabine, played by Nilushi Dewapura, Constance Bonacieux, played by Akarsha Jirasinha, and King Louis XIII, played by Nipun Kannangara.If you wish to experience this legendary tale of heroism, treachery, close escapes and, above all, honour, sheathe your swords and meet us at the Lionel Wendt Theatre – Colombo, sharp at 7 o’clock on 25, 26 and 27 January 2019!Tickets priced at Rs. 800, Rs. 1,200, Rs. 1,600, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 3,000 are available at the Wendt and at lionelwendt.org.
