Navratri (literally ‘Nine Nights’) is one of the festival celebrated widely in Sri Lanka by Hindu devotes in the autumn every year. Invoking Goddess of Durka, Lakshmi and Saraswathy to bestow the prosperity, wealth of knowledge and Durka Puja is synonymous with Navratri, wherein goddess Durga battles and emerges victorious over demon to help restore Dharma. The nine days are also a major crop season of cultural events with public celebration of classical, folk dances and music of Hindu culture. Bharathanatyam dancer Thushyanthy Velauthan performed a dance of offering at the Charity Organization in Colombo.
