‘Why? Saama’: Real life story played out by puppets on Saturday

All have a great opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day and the World Puppetry Day with a real life story played out by puppets on Saturday 23 March from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the British Council Library.

The performance is created by Power of Play Ltd., with the support of the ‘Voices and Choices’ grant of the British Council Sri Lanka and partnered by Dilmah, Merill J Fernando Charitable Foundation and Compania Pirata. It will be conducted in Sinhala with brief translations in Tamil and English.

Participants will be able to meet Saama, a little girl who loves to collect questions – at home, in school, on the road – wherever she goes, she finds questions for her ever-growing collection.

From the simple to the profound, Saama’s questions bring to light many social norms and challenge the adults around her to question the value of the standards we impose on children growing up in Sri Lanka today.

Performed by finger, hand and giant puppets accompanied by clowning, mime and original live music, ‘Why? Saama’ is a show that aims to generate important dialogue around the issues of gender, self-confidence and courage to face your own fears, and grow in to your full giant potential.
