After the immense success of last year’s Music from the Movies, the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka is preparing once again to take you on an exhilarating ride down memory lane to the accompaniment of some favourite show tunes.

On 8 and 9 August the SOSL will perform some of the most popular music from the movies. Re-live the thrill of seeing Darth Vader stalking down the halls of the Death Star while the Imperial March rings in your ears, or enjoy the excitement of watching Superman launch into the void, fist extended?

Do you remember Eliza Doolittle’s struggle with vowels in My Fair Lady, or feel the hair rise on the back of your neck when you hear a prayer for deliverance from Prince of Egypt? Does the heart-rending theme from Schindler’s List still make you cry?  If so, don’t miss this concert at the Bishops College Auditorium on 8 and 9 August.

The orchestra will be joined by the Methodist College choir in medleys from perennially popular classics like Les Miserables and Grease, as well as compilations of the most loved Broadway hits of Rogers and Hammerstein and the inimitable Andrew Lloyd Webber. Dmitri Gunatilake, the well-known soprano, will also join the orchestra as soloist in performing excerpts from Lloyd Webber’s Evita and Les Mis. The SOSL will be directed by Dushyanthi Perera, a distinguished figure in our country’s classical music sphere, a renowned cellist and now a rising star in the field of conducting.

Music at the Movies promises to be an immensely entertaining evening.

Box plan and tickets are available at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
