A night of delightful entertainment with an internationally-renowned comedian, a harmonious orchestra, and exquisite cuisine, for a praise-worthy cause; the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) hosted their guests to just such an occasion for the fourth consecutive year on 7 October at the Balmoral, the Kingsbury to raise funds for the free workshops that SLID conducts in cities throughout Sri Lanka. There were over 250 directors and their guests who sat to wine and dine over an elegant six-course dinner with tasteful entertainment throughout the evening.

Wilson Gunaratne presented a compilation of characters who were concerned that ‘Dream Airways’ launched on 4 February 1948 had still not taken off the ground. He put on an impeccable performance of four recognisable characters interceded with hilarity drawing laughs from everyone.

This year’s SLID dinner was memorable in its own right as an evening of entertainment, but those involved will have also contributed to knowledge sharing throughout the island through the workshops it will finance. The Platinum sponsor was the JKH Group’s Cinnamon Life, with support for SLID from Iron One Technologies, Continental Insurance, Standard Chartered Bank, Senok Automobiles, Triad Advertising, Overseas Reality and NDB Bank.

SLID is supported by Dialog Enterprise, DIMO Technologies and Linea Aqua Ltd. as the annual corporate sponsors with Wijeya Newspapers as the Print Media partner and Echelon Magazine as the Exclusive Magazine Partner of SLID. The other partners whose expertise made the occasion a success were Rockland Group who provided the cocktails, Coca Cola Beverages Sri Lanka Ltd, Daily FT and Daily Mirror, E FM and the EAP Group.

Music for the evening was provided by Philharmonia Players and the event was compeered by Ramesh Schaffter who added his own brand of humour and skilfully manoeuvred between the artists performing that evening contributing to the success of the event.
