American classical guitarist performs in Colombo

The Guitar Association of Sri Lanka in collaboration with Asian Guitar Federation (India) and the Indian Cultural Centre is working to have a series of workshops and concerts to popularise classical guitar music in Sri Lanka. The workshops are conducted by Dr. Paul Cesraczyk of USA. 

Dr. Paul Cesarczyk has been the recipient of the prestigious Andres Segovia award, The Aaron Copland prize from ASCAP, The Artists International Award, and many prestigious awards world over. He has also performed in many music festivals and concerts.

Dr. Cesarczyk was educated in New York city public school and received his bachelors and Masters degree from Manhattan School of music. He completed a doctor of Musical Arts degree at the State University of New York. Since 2009 Dr. Cesarczyk serves as the department chair at Mahidol University, College of Music in Thailand.

The program details are as follows:

•  19 October – Arrival – 3:30 p.m. Press conference at Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo.                        
•   20 October – 9-12 a.m. Workshop at MA33, Arts faculty, University of Peradenya, concert at E.O.E. Pereira theatre, Engineering faculty, University of Peradeniya.                                        
•     21 October – Workshop at Giragama teacher training College, Pilimatalawa.                                   
•     22 October – 9-11 a.m. Workshop at University of Visual and Performing Arts, Colombo, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Workshop at Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo.                                                        
•     23 October – 9-11 a.m., 11:30-1:30 p.m and 3:30-5:30 p.m. Workshops at Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo. (Three workshops)                                                                       
•     24 October – Gala Concert at Russian Centre, Colombo 7.

This is the first time a workshop is held by a classical guitarist of world fame to popularise classical guitar playing in Sri lanka. Those interested in taking part in the workshops or reservations for concert can contact Iqbal 0718 690494 or email [email protected].
