In the early 1960s, four fresh-faced lads (John, Paul, George and Ringo) from Liverpool embarked on one of pop-music’s hallowed journeys. The frenzy that was Beatlemania became an obsession that spread from England to the USA, and then to the universe. 50 years on, this explosion still persists – and on Tuesday 16 August, Sri Lanka eagerly awaits our very own Beatles Concert at the Lionel Wendt Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. – a not-to-be-missed evening of hit-songs, aptly titled ‘All you need is love’.

The affable Rukshan Perera combines his talent with the popular band Flame, to recreate a performance of Beatles top-hits. This inspiring combination has the power to arouse the audience to get out of their seats and dance on the isles. And as a value added factor, guest artistes Harsha Makalanda, Asteria and Nivendra Uduman will join in the celebrations to bring you a night to remember!

Using sophisticated projection technology, sound and lights to transport the audience back to the 60s, these versatile musicians will chronicle The Beatles’ rise from Liverpool’s Cavern Club to the height of their fame through songs including Yesterday, Imagine, I Feel Fine, Something, Hard Day’s Night, Eight Days a Week, Let It Be, Hey Jude, Penny Lane, I Wanna Hold Your Hand…25 top hits of The Beatles that we love to hear!

Samutthana – the Kings College Resource Centre for Trauma – is proud to be hosting ‘All you need is love’, an evening of Beatlemania with the multi-talented Rukshan Perera. Music for a good cause, all proceeds from this will go towards the provision of much needed mental health services for children and young people affected by the recent floods and landslides in Sri Lanka. Buy your tickets early and join them as they celebrate Samutthana’s 10th anniversary. Enjoy The Beatles’ kaleidoscope music, tap your toes, clap your hands and join in the singing (see if you can resist!) while supporting this worthwhile charity Samutthana.

Tickets available at the Lionel Wendt Theatre – and at Samutthana, 419 Nawala Road, Nawala. Tel: 011 2883847, 077 6565201.
