Sameer Anjaan (b. 1958, India) has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the Most prolific Bollywood lyricist ever - having composed an incredible 3,524 different songs as of 15 December 2015
Reuters: Bollywood lyricist Sameer Anjaan recently made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for penning the most number of songs.
Anjaan was also honoured with the title of ‘Most Prolific Bollywood Lyricist’ at a function in India’s entertainment capital, Mumbai on Monday.
Sameer began his career as a lyricist in 1983 with his first movie ‘Bekhabar’. He has till date written 3,524 versatile songs in as many as 650 Bollywood movies.
The representative of the Guinness World Record in India, Nikhil Shukla, honoured Sameer with a certificate in the presence of dignitaries of Hindi film industry.
Shukla said that a category was especially created in view of the enormous work done by Sameer.
“We did not have this category when Sameer Anjaan contacted us a year ago. Guinness World Record did not have even a category of Bollywood lyricist. Within a year a new category was created in view of all his works and archives. After that the most prolific Bollywood lyricist, this award and this record was awarded to Sameer Sir,” said Anjaan.
The lyricist dedicated the award to his father, who was also a famed Bollywood lyricist.
“I cannot name one as a favourite. There are many films whose songs are close to my heart like Dil, Aashiqui, Beta, Raja Hindustani, Kuch Kuch hota hai, etcetera. And I would like to dedicate this award to my father. Only due to his blessings, I have been able to reach this far. Whatever I have achieved till date is dedicated to my father,” said Sameer.
The 57-year-old lyricist has given the industry some of the best all time hits.
His notable works include ‘Ghungat Ki Aad Se’ from the film ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke’, ‘Teri Umeed Tera Intezar Karte Hai’ from ‘Deewana’, ‘Nazar Ke Saamne’ from ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Tum Paas Aye’ from ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, among others.
