Once again The Council for Business with Britain in association with the British Council invites theatre lovers from all schools to showcase their dramatic talent by taking part in the CBB Annual Inter Schools Drama Competition and support a worthy cause while earning kudos for their school. Each performance should be a 25 minute extract from a published play of ‘A’ level standard.

This event aims to raise funds for an ongoing English Language Teacher Training Program which is conducted by the CBB in partnership with the British Council to help rural schools in Sri Lanka.

Finlays Colombo Ltd. will partner the Council for Business with Britain (CBB) together with the British Council to hold this year’s annual CBB drama competition.

Last year we had 16 schools, representing, both Public and International schools namely – Sanghamitta Balika Vidyalaya – Galle, Amal International, British  School in Colombo, Richmond College and Mahinda College of Galle, Rotary International, Lyceum International Schools of Pandaura and Nugegoda, Gateway College of Dehiwala and Rajagiriya; Regent International School,  Yoshida Shokandi International School, Stafford International School and Trinity  College, Kandy with St. Bridget’s Convent taking home the trophy.

Drama has held audiences spellbound from time immemorial and it captures the energy and imagination of teenagers as no other medium can. The thrill of the performance, irrespective of whether you come first or not, is unmatched. Costumes! Make up! Stage fright! The bond knowing the show cannot go on without the smallest member of the cast or crew doing their best – these are so vivid in the theatre.

In today’s world the ability to understand and evaluate those around us is a highly prized quality. Whatever your chosen career is you need to be able to understand, analyse and respond to those you work with as well as your clients. Theatre craft is, in essence, the study of human nature. Adopting a persona completely different from your own makes you aware of the psychology of different personalities and how they react to a variety of situations. No school child should be denied the thrill of the performance.
