Chhimi Tenduf-La, author of ‘The Amazing Racist,’ will be signing books between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday 21 March at Odel, Alexander Place. Hachette India released Tenduf-La’s debut novel, ‘The Amazing Racist,’ worldwide at the beginning of the New Year, and have reprinted it four times in order to cater to the demand of the local market. Commenting on the positive reviews the book has received, as well as its commercial popularity, Tenduf-La said: “I hope this means the book resonates with people here. It certainly shows how generous, supportive and hospitable Sri Lankans are. I was overwhelmed, in a good way, by the turn up at my first book signing. I hope people will pop into Odel on the 21st as I love meeting people who have an interest in local fiction.” Tenduf-La was signed up by leading literary agent, Kanishka Gupta, in March 2014. Gupta promptly sold the international rights to Tenduf-La’s first two novels to the Indian arms of two of the biggest trade publishers in the world. Tenduf-La’s second novel, ‘Panther,’ will be published by HarperCollins India in July. “I am scared about the release of ‘Panther’. Genuinely scared. It’s a more ambitious novel, and one I can say is a lot better than my first, until people actually read it; and it is coming out in three months.” Tenduf-La has been invited to officially launch The Amazing Racist at CALM Creative Arts, Literature & Music Festival 2015 in Shillong, India from 13-16 May. He will also be a panellist on the subject of racism from a global perspective. ‘The Amazing Racist’ is available at Odel, Makeens, Vijitha Yapa, Barefoot, Sarasavi, Trunk, Paradise Road and other leading stores. Order online from Takas.lk, with free delivery within Colombo.
