Chraft presents world renowned contemporary worship musician Brian Doerksen in Sri Lanka

untitled-7The Christian Arts Foundation will host world-renowned Canadian Christian singer-songwriter and worship leader Brian Doerksen at “Simply Worship-2”, an evening of gospel music on 12 November 2016 at the People’s Church Auditorium in Narahenpita. The evening of worship will commence at 6:30pm and entrance is by program only.

Brian Doerksen’s songs are known and sung in churches around the world. Songs like ‘Come, now is the time to worship’, ‘Faithful One’, ‘Refiner’s Fire’, ‘Hallelujah (Your love is amazing)’ & ‘The River.’, were all penned and composed by this award winning musician. 

Brian also co-writes new inspirational folk-rock settings of the ancient Psalms as part of a new band; The SHIYR Poets (pronounced ‘Sheer’.) Also in the band are Calum Rees, Brian Thiessen and Teresa Trask, long time members of Brian’s recording and touring band. The band which will join Brian on stage in Sri Lanka will also feature Suren de Kauwe on bass guitar.

Brian received a Gospel Music Association Dove Award in 2003, only the second Canadian to be so honoured. He has also won a string of Covenant Awards during his career including four in 2005, among them: Artist of the Year, Praise and Worship Album of the Year and Praise and Worship Song of the Year. Three more Covenant Awards followed in 2006, and a further six in 2007. In 2008 he won a Juno Award for the album Holy God (Contemporary Christian/Gospel Album of the year) and in November 2014, at the Covenant Awards he received the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ from the Gospel Music Association of Canada.

He also co-wrote a musical titled “Prodigal God” with playwright and worship pastor Christopher Greco. The production was debuted in February 2010 in Vancouver, before going on tour.

Brian currently splits his time between his hometown Abbotsford, B.C. and Three Hills, Alberta, where he is leading the new ‘Music & Worship Arts’ Program at Prairie Bible College that began in September 2014. This is his second visit to Sri Lanka.
