Christmas Concert by the SOSL tomorrow

The much-awaited SOSL Christmas Concert will once again be a highlight of the season. On 12 December, the Ladies College Hall will resound to the sounds of the SOSL and the Mary Anne David Chorale, as they bring you a program of sparkling Christmas cheer.

The Mary Anne David Chorale will sing their signature piece, the “Hallelujah Chorus” as well as O Holy Night and Christmas songs including It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year and a medley of much-loved carols in Leroy Anderson’s “Christmas Festival”. Directed by Mary Anne David, one of Sri Lanka’s foremost choral directors, this chorale consists of well-known and experienced choral singers.

Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, performed by Soundarie David Rodrigo, will be the highlight of the evening. One of the most iconic masterpieces of American music, this piece, full of catchy tunes and jazz rhythms, demands tremendous technique and flair, skills that Soundarie has in abundance.

The SOSL will be directed by Dushy Perera, whose artistic guidance and enthusiasm for music infuses energy and passion into a receptive orchestra. The SOSL will perform a program of festive favourites and Latin American classics such as Jealousy and a medley of Oye Como Va, La Bamba and Tequila. The SOSL will also perform a little-heard yet thrilling Slavonic Dance by Chabrier – a piece of whirling rhythms and joyous optimism – and an orchestral arrangement of Chopin’s immensely popular Military Polonaise.

The Chorale will lead the audience in a rousing sing-along of both traditional and contemporary Christmas fare, such as Winter Wonderland and Let it Snow, guaranteed to swing the audience into the Christmas spirit.
