Just imagine you’re in a cinema theatre and enjoying a movie, and then at the next minute you’re in a jungle, hearing the chirping of the birds, the giant roar of lions and the magnificent trumpeting of the elephants, and then you’re tempted to be near a waterfall, the sound of the rushing water coming from every nook and corner.
Afterwards, you are inside a rocket, just about to set off to explore the amazing mysteries of space. Again you’re at a concert where you can hear and see the band playing in front of you, whereas they also move around the whole place. Later on you’re standing by a river, listening to the soft water drips and travel by a speeding Porsche on a suburban high way. You can experience all these amazing moments for real, by sitting inside the Cine City movie theatre, Colombo, which will give you an experience worth the value for money.
Currently going through some refurbishment, the Cine City will be open to the general public with a glamorous new look, by adding the latest sound system of the digital family – the Dolby Atmos, for the first time in Sri Lanka, which will give the movie goers a whole new experience by taking them to another world and a different place, by its unique sound effects, modern technology and meeting up with the international standards of digital technology.
With this newly introduced sound system, one can experience the life like sounds as inside the heart of a jungle , river , or the thundering rain from the front , the sides, even from the top of the Cinema hall. The Dolby Atmos is a very modern and an expensive sound system, and is introduced for the first time in Sri Lanka, said Deshabandu Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena, CEO of the Cine City Cinema Complex, Colombo.
Dolby Atmos was installed in the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California, for the premiere of ‘Brave’ in June 2012. By 2015, there were over 2,100 locations and Dolby Atmos has also been adapted to a home theatre format and is the audio component of Dolby Cinema. This sound system holds a capacity of 128 audio tracks plus associated spatial audio description metadata (location or pan automation data). This will be distributed to theatres for optimal, dynamic rendering to loudspeakers based on the theatre capabilities.
Each audio track can be assigned to an audio channel, the traditional format for distribution, or to an audio object. It is the surround sound technology which was announced by Dolby Laboratories in April 2012 and released in June 2012. Other movies which had been released including this sound are The Croods, How to train your Dragon 2, Inside Out, Kung Fu Panda 3, Monster Trucks, Cars 3, and Despicable Me, to name a few.
Cine City, which is the first cinema complex to introduce this amazing experience which is new to Sri Lanka, was the first multiplex cinema complex which was opened in 2003. After 15 years, other multiplex Cinema Complexes started building up, following the concept. The Cinema complex was a brainchild of Dr. Keerthisena who inspired ardent movie goers to get a new experience which they will remember.
“With the new sound system, three theatres at Cine City will be renovated, new interior decorations, upgrading the facilities and chairs will be done with the new concept,” said Keerthisena.
With the new sound system, the first two films will be VIP 2, a Tamil film starring actor Dhanush, and Sharukh Khan’s latest movie, ‘Jaab Hari Seger’. With the opening of the newly upgraded facilities and the new sound system, movie goers will experience the best sound quality and cinematic experience which has not been there before, from 4 August. The inauguration of the new sound system will be on 4 August at 6:30 p.m. with Sharukh Khan’s new film Jab Harry Met Sejal.
