With less than a week to go before opening night, organisers of the Fairway Galle Literary Festival has announced some interesting last minute additions to the lineup.
N. Ram, Chairman and Publisher of The Hindu group of newspapers will be giving a talk titled Free Speech Deficits which will be a reflection on the fraught state of freedom of expression in India, with some brief observations on recent free speech issues in Sri Lanka. The talk is free and will be held on Friday, 13 January from 4 p.m.-5 p.m. at the Maritime Museum in Galle.
Celebrated explorer Jennifer Murray’s talk on her adventure flying a helicopter solo to the Artic will now be accompanied by free cocktails and canapes at Tamarind Hill for those who buy tickets to her event. English poet and playwright Kate Tempest will have a spoken-word performance on Friday, 13 January, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. from her new album Let Them Eat Chaos. Famed Indian archeologist Nayanjot Lahiri is scheduled to have a talk on Finding Forgotten Cities: How The Indus Civilization was Discovered on Thursday, 12 January, from 4 p.m.-5 p.m.
