Fashion Bug honours little artists of Sri Lanka at Roo Siththam 2013

“Roo Siththam”, an all-island, inter-school annual art competition organised by Fashion Bug was held at Nawarangahala recently.
“Roo Siththam” is the signature annual event pertaining to “Sisu Dirimaga”, Fashion Bug’s social sustainability platform dedicated to education and the upliftment of Sri Lankan students. The competition yields over 40,000 entries from all over the island representing over 200 schools and has been held every year since. Three hundred students belonging to three age categories were merited at the award ceremony, which is one of the most sought after events among the little art enthusiasts of Sri Lanka.
The Chief of Defence Staff General Jagath Jayasooriya graced the event as the chief guest, while guests of honour celebrated children’s author/illustrator Janaki Sooriyaarachchi, award winning children’s film director Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake and his wife Renuka Balasooriya, sports icons Susanthika Jayasinghe and T.M. Dilshan, as well as celebrated musician Iraj Weeraratne, were also present.
“It is our aim to establish a sustainable CSR platform as opposed to miscellaneous one-off projects that lack clear long term objectives. The Sisu Dirimaga program will ensure that all the projects will stem from one clear platform, establishing a clear CSR identity for Fashion Bug as a responsible Corporate Citizen,” said Fashion Bug’s Manager Marketing Nadisha Wickramathilake.
“We wish to get the foundation accredited by the Ministry of Education to centralise the auditing process of our recipients and to establish a better feedback and feed-forward method between us and the beneficiaries, thus making Sisu Dirimaga a stronger and more effective force in making a real and sustainable change in rural education,” said Fashion Bug Chairman Rizal Subian.
“Developing underprivileged schools in rural areas through mobilising of projects, upholding and financially enabling underprivileged students who excel academically, enabling the dreams of those with the desire to learn and making a reality of Education for as well as developing their talents, in this case their artistic capabilities, no matter their circumstances in life, is our goal,” said Subian
In addition, Fashion Bug is also involved in several other CSR projects which include the Kalubowila Hospital, Maharagama Cancer Hospital, and an environmental project in Kurunegala, namely ‘Thuru Sahasak’.
“Each Fashion Bug outlet works closely with its community. We have close links with the community centres and religious communities of all religions and we actively participate in and contribute to all their events,” said Fashion Bug AGM Operations Faraaz Hameed.
