FDI for performing arts in Sri Lanka

Well known film, teledrama and stage play Producer Dr. Arosha Fernando is focusing on developing all three sectors of the performing arts in Sri Lanka as an industry to attract foreign direct investment (FDI). During the past few years he has been proactively working towards uplifting the local cinema industry and plans to establish 60 new movie theatres in 30 strategic locations in the island with a foreign direct investment (FDI) of Rs. 850 million as the stage 1 of the project. Dr. Fernando is also working towards establishing a full fledge theatre for stage plays including a drama school with an initial investment estimated around Rs. 150 million from another FDI.

Within a period of three years Dr. Fernando has produced six movies, four teledramas and two stage dramas to his credit, and has been recognised as the producer who has produced the highest number of creations in the shortest time frame in Sri Lanka contributing to all the three sectors of performing arts. Three movies were screened, two teledramas were telecasted and the remaining creations will be launched in the coming 18 months. 

His current and upcoming productions include ‘Ida Denna’ teledrama currently telecasting on Rupavahini on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:30 p.m., ‘Nilanjana’ film to be screened in July, ‘Breaking News’ stage drama to be staged on 6 August, ‘Hetak Nethi Ratak’ stage drama to be staged in September 2015, ‘Guru Geethya’ film to be screened early 2016 and ‘Ashaway Maya’ film to be screened end of 2016.
