Japanese virtuoso to perform Vivaldi’s ‘Four Seasons’ with Chamber Music Society of Colombo

First prize winner at the 22nd Italian ‘Città di Barletta›, Japanese born violinist Mika Nishimura started to learn the instrument at the age of four. After her initial training in Tokyo, she won a scholarship to the ‹Escuela Superior de Musica Reina Sofia› in Madrid, Spain where she studied under Maestro hZakhar Bron. 

Winning her second and third full scholarships from the ‹Albeniz Foundation› and the Tel-Aviv University, she relocated to Tel-Aviv, Israel to further study at the ‹Buchmann Mehta School of Music› under the supervision of Prof. Irina Svetlova along with master-classes with virtuoso Nikolaj Znaider. Highlights of her young solo performing career include participating at the ‹Gifu Listz Ferenc› International Music Festival and performing with the ‹New Budapest Quartet› in Tokyo. She is currently on the visiting faculty of the Zubin and Mehli Mehta Foundation in Mumbai.  

Mika’s Sri Lankan debut, made possible by Fairway Holdings, will take place on 5 December as the featured soloist of the Chamber Music Society’s ‘Holiday Season Gala Concert’ at the Lionel Wendt. Tickets available at the venue.
