LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Jurassic World” enjoyed a monster opening day in China, where it was released on Wednesday (June 10).
The film enjoyed a $16.4 million debut, giving it a $17.8 million total including previews.
Average ticket price at $6.4 was the highest priced ticket in the country. The fourth film in the “Jurassic Park” series played 64,600 performances, according to Chinese box office data agency Entgroup.
That score was many multiples ahead of second place film “San Andreas,” which took just $2.66 million on Wednesday. After nine days on release, last week’s top ranking movie has a total of $66.1 million in China.
The Colin Trevorrow-directed title releases across multiple territories on June 10 and 11 and opens in North America through Universal on Friday (June 12).
Universal is planning to open its first theme park in China at a location near Beijing in 2017.
