The students of the Overseas School of Colombo organised a visual arts exhibition of their work in the school auditorium. The exhibition was the culmination of their course. The students selected the best of their work done during the year and exhibited it. Throughout the course students are encouraged to produce work that follows a theme and that has some relevance to them individually. This year’s exhibition featured an array of very personal work in a wide variety of themes and media. The school’s auditorium was transformed during the exhibition into an exciting visual experience; Anjleen Hannak presented work inspired by her passion for marine biology and diving. Laurens Langitan landscape works in oil, Greta Rocchi colourful pieces exploring various aspects of food, Ysobella Grieve-Darcy a collection of intriguing photographs and prints about identity and John Fredericks an impressive series of large scale pieces and an installation based around significant childhood memories. Jack Everingham’s striking, tonally bold work presented works exploring texture through personal icons. Soraya McGinley’s display explored photography in a variety of exciting ways depicting her impressions of her and her family’s move from Australia to Sri Lanka. Nishant Mathew showed more traditional investigations into portraiture contrasted and combined with works using digital media. The exhibition was visited by a large amount of the school’s community with some very excited reactions from the Primary School classes. The reviews received were positive and encouraging from proud parents, middle and high school students, and members of staff.
