Ranji and Queen Charmaine, the two Sri Lankans in the Australian reggae act Irie, are back in Sri Lanka and performed at Reggaefest 2017 in Bentota on Saturday 7 January.

Ranji is the band leader, bass player and producer of Irie while Queen Charmaine is the main vocalist and song writer.

Queen Charmaine says, “Performing at Reggaefest 2016 was a blast and we’re so excited to be invited this year as well.” An old Royalist, Ranji whose day job is as an Electronic Engineer in Melbourne says. “While music is our passion, we want to do more than entertain; we want to send a positive message to the youth; that is what Reggae music is about.”

Their song for Sri Lankan youth ‘New Generation’ reached No.1 spot on YES FM Home Grown Top 15 and their other songs have reached second and third places. They plan to perform at Otters Club and Sooriya Village as well. For details head to www.facebook.com/irieband or contact +94 (76) 333 2541.
