Royal College – Group of ‘91 is an alumni association, comprising of classmates who passed out from Royal College Colombo in 1991 and is affiliated to the old boys union of Royal College.
With over 500 strong memberships across the world, the association prides itself as a group that cares about the alma mater though they parted way back in 1991. Group of 91, started their journey by building an overhead water tank for the junior section which was a much needed requirement at that time. They also constructed a staff room for primary teachers to enjoy their break and gave a facelift to the rifle shooting/weight lifting arena which gave a boost to these two not so popular sports. The group further invested in restoring the connecting bridges of main college buildings and a part of the main parapet wall, while preserving its colonial ambiance.
Group of ‘91 created a carnival of rugby popularly known as the ‘Royal Rugby Fiesta’, a fellowship for the rugby fraternity of all ages which is in its 14th year. This is probably the only tournament of this nature conducted in the country, where rugby fans and players rally together to celebrate both the school and the game.
Royal College – Group of ‘91, wants to make 2016 an exceptional year by organising a gala dinner dance ‘Silver Rendezvous’ to be held on 9 March at the Colombo Hilton and continuing 137 years of traditions at the ‘91 Broncos tent’ exclusively for the membership at the Royal Thomian cricket encounter which will be held at the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) grounds from 10 to 12 March. There will be a week of fellowship where over 500 members and their spouses from various parts of the world will meet and rekindle friendships.
Further, the group has organised many exciting events throughout the year 2016 to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Group of ‘91.
