Gamer.LK, Sri Lanka’s largest online gaming community has partnered with Sri Lanka’s premier connectivity provider, Dialog Axiata PLC, to enable fast access for Season 8 of its popular Gamer.LK Clans Counter Strike League, one of the most popular online gaming leagues in Sri Lanka.

Season 8 is the first time the league will be played with Counter Strike: Global Offensive, the latest release in the Counter Strike franchise.

Gamer.LK Clans Counter Strike League (GCCL) is an online tournament where the best teams and clans in the country battle it out in matches played online, where two teams of five players each take on one another in an elimination format, which ultimately decides who will take the coveted title of ‘GCCL Champions’ this year. In 2015, the gaming servers are hosted on Dialog’s state-of-the-art Internet Data Centre (IDC) powered by its 4G network, which will result in low latency and high-quality gaming experience, thereby continuing to push forward Dialog’s endeavour to empower eSports in the country.

In addition to the tournament, the server is also available to the public to join in and play Counter Strike: Global Offensive online. The server can be directly accessed via the IP ‘csgo.gamer.lk’ or can be selected in-game, and is displayed as ‘Gamer.LK Sri Lankan CSGO Server - Powered by Dialog Axiata’.

Apart from facilitating servers for the gaming sector, Dialog Axiata operates Sri Lanka’s largest 3G and 4G-LTE networks that offer burst speeds of up to 40 Mbps (Megabits per second), and is the preferred network for the gaming industry, which requires high-speed broadband to mitigate lag.

“Competitive gaming in Sri Lanka is restricted to one-on-one playing or groups getting together at a central location to participate. The underlying infrastructure needed for online community gaming has been the missing element, which has resulted in this situation. The global trend is for players to build robust online communities and game across geographical boundaries. Dialog’s commitment is to create the fastest network in order to offer the best gaming experience,” said Dialog Axiata PLC Head of Business – Global and Content Services Mangala Hettiarachchi.

Matches for Season 8 of GCCL commenced

on 5 September.
