An eight-member team of Sri Lankan artisans recently participated at India’s largest craft market named ‘Dilli Haat’ in New Delhi.
The event is open throughout the year to enable sale of craft of Indian artists. Dilli Haat is operated by Delhi Tourism and sponsored by the Development Commissioner of Handicrafts India.
The Sri Lankan team for this prestigious market was sponsored by Hands of Sri Lanka – National Craft Foundation led by its President Dr. Buddhi Keerthisena along with support from Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake. The National Lotteries Board and Development Lottery sponsored the stalls for Sri Lankan artisans.
The Lankan team exhibited batiks, wood carvings, masks, coconut shell products, play items, jewellery, ceramics and paintings at the Dilli Haat.
Dr. Keerthisena said Sri Lankan products were highly welcomed by the visitors whilst India’s Minister of Women and Child Development Menaka Gandhi who visited the Sri Lanka stall too was impressed.
The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka’s High Commission in India, the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported this key initiative to promote Lankan artisans and their creative talent and products in India.
