The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Paris participated in the 23 Edition of the Vesoul Asian Film Festival which was held from 7-14 February in Vesoul, France.
This year’s edition of the festival has placed a special emphasis on the Sri Lankan cinema with a retrospective segment on the theme ‘Masters of the Sri Lankan Cinema’ which featured 14 renowned films by veteran Sri Lankan artists.
Prominent Sri Lankan Directors Prasanna Vithanage and Vimukthi Jayasundara as well as popular Sri Lanka actress Swarna Mallawarachchi took part in this year’s festival. Mallawarachchi was also awarded a ‘Cyclos d’Or d’Honneur’ in recognition of her immense contribution to the Sri Lankan cinema.
Ambassador Ranaviraja speaking at the ‘Sri Lankan Night’ that took place on 10 February thanked the organisers of the event, Jean-Marc Thérouanne, General Manager and Bastian Meiresonne, Creative Director of the festival for their conscientious efforts to recognise Sri Lankan cinema.
The Embassy also took this opportunity to treat the participants to a cup of Sri Lankan tea which was enjoyed by all.
Vesoul Asian Film Festival which is held annually, is one of the first in France to conduct a film festival with a special focus on the Asian cinema. The festival attracts around 30,000 film lovers each year.
