The Embassy of Japan together with the Colombo Wind Orchestra will present ‘An Evening of Wind Music’ under the baton of renowned Japanese conductor Keiko Kobayashi, to be held at the Medical Faculty Auditorium, Karapitiya, on Sunday 16 November 2014 at 6 p.m.
This musical concert, another outreach project oraganised by the Embassy of Japan and the Colombo Wind Orchestra with Kobayashi, who held a successful concert at Batticaloa in 2013 and at Jaffna in 2012 under her consistent theme of ‘Peace’ and ‘National Reconciliation’ of Sri Lanka, will feature among others ‘Hands Across the Sea’ by John Philip Sousa and ‘The Song of the Sea’ by Rex Mitchell to commemorate Japan’s tsunami disaster of 2011, ‘Thunder and Lightning’ by Johann Strauss accompanied by children’s school bands, ‘Memory from the Cats’ by Andrew Lloyd Webber and arranged by Naohiro Iwai, ‘Kitchen Fiesta’ by Mike Story, and the ever popular Japanese song ‘Sukiyaki’ (I look up as I walk) by Japanese composer and Jazz pianist Hachidai Nakamura and arranged by Kunitoshi Yamashita.
A guest feature will be presented by renowned Japanese Saxophonist Wataru Yoshimura, who will also demonstrate the exciting techniques of the saxophone as a versatile wind instrument played by any orchestra.
A demonstration and mini-workshop for school children on how to conduct an orchestra will also be presented by Kobayashi during the concert.
The concert will be full of educational value, excitement and entertainment.
The concert is free of charge to the public and open to all music lovers.
