A fund raising musical event ‘Sing-Along with the Marians’ has been organised by the ‘Wings of Hope Trust’ on 8 August at the BMICH, Colombo to raise funds to build houses for displaced families in Nachchkalliya, Kalpitiya,
“The measure of the greatness of a society is found in the way it treats those most in need, those who have nothing apart from their poverty” (Pope Francis)
Greatly inspired by these noble thoughts of Pope Francis who visited Sri Lanka in January this year, the ‘Wings of Hope Trust’ was established by the Papal Visit reception committee of laity chaired by the Bishop of Chilaw to be of service to those most in need.
Accordingly, witnessing nearly 60 families living in a multi-religious setting in Nachchikalliya (Kalpitiya) with no place to call home, the Wings of Hope Trust has embarked on a community mission to build houses for our fellow brothers and sisters on land provided to them by the Government. The plan is to build 60 permanent houses with basic facilities.
The official launch of the Wings of Hope Trust and the sing-along fundraising event was held on Friday 3 July in Colombo, under the patronage of Bishop of Chilaw Rt. Rev. Dr. D. Valence Mendis, amidst a gathering of special invitees, sponsors and the media. The official website of the trust was also launched by His Lordship. The website address is www.wingsofhopetrust.org. The Trust looks forward to the generous support of well-wishers by way of donations towards the housing project and attendance at the fund raising musical evening.
