As most of the bankers by now are looking forward to the annual convention of the Association of Professional Bankers (APB) Sri Lanka that is scheduled to be held on 20 February, – it is worthy to note down the topics of the sessions to be conducted.

The first session as was earlier communicated would be on ‘Resilience in the VUCA world’. The second session is dedicated to the most important aspect and function that makes it resilient and also has made it a part of the VUCA world – that is Technology. Banking and Technology now have become near synonyms. The one compliments the other. Therefore, it is timely to discuss how banks can and should adapt to the ever–evolving technology.

Adoption to technology has become a do or die situation for the financial industry. The emerging FinTech is posing a threat to the mere survival of the bankers in provision of financial services.

The speaker of this session is yet another industry veteran Dialog Axiata PLC CEO Supun Weerasinghe, who is having hands on experience in both worlds; technology and communication with a flavour of FinTech world. He will deliberate on the importance of collaborating with innovative technology to the banking industry, adaptability, the challenges, cost benefits and imminent threat from the FinTech companies.

The session will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Boston Consultancy Group of India Managing Director and Partner Abhinav Bansal. The panellists will be Supun Weerashinghe, MasterCard International Inc. Chief Operating Officer Vikas Varma and WSO2 Chief Executive Officer Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana.
