364-day bill WAvg remains unchanged at 6.00%

By Wealth Trust Securities The weighted average (WAvg) on the 364-day bill remained unchanged at 6.00% at this week’s Treasury bill auction held yesterday. An amount of Rs. 10.96 billion was accepted against bids of Rs. 27.17 billion received in comparison to its offered amount of Rs. 8 billion. Leading to the auction and following the auction results, secondary market bond yields were seen decreasing yesterday mainly on the liquid maturities of 1 July 2022 and 1 January 2024 to intraday lows of 7.70% and 8.00% respectively against its days opening highs of 7.85% and 8.10%. In addition, a limited amount of activity was witnessed on the two 2018 maturities (i.e. 1 April 2018 and 15 August 2018), and the 1 May 2021 maturity as well within the range of 7.00% to 7.10%, 7.15% to 7.25% and 7.55% to 7.70% respectively. In secondary bill markets, the 364 day bill was quoted within the range of 5.95% to 6.00%, post auction. In money markets yesterday, surplus liquidity stood at Rs. 14.77 with an amount of Rs. 10 billion being drained out by way of a three day term repo auction at a weighted average of 5.73%. Overnight call money and repo rates averaged 6.00% and 5.45% respectively. Rupee dips for a third consecutive day In forex markets, the rate on spot next contracts (five-day forward) dipped for a third consecutive day to Rs. 130.9010 on the back of continued importer demand. The total USDLKR traded volume for 20 October was at $ 40.33 million. Given are some forward dollar rates that prevailed in the market: one month – 131.33; three months – 132.28; six months – 133.33.
