RDB Bank, as Sri Lanka’s leading state-owned development bank, remains committed to empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening the national economy. With a network of 272 branches and a dedicated workforce of over 3,000 employees, the bank has played a pivotal role in fostering economic development for nearly four decades.

In line with the Government’s concept of establishing an entrepreneurial economy, RDB Bank has launched a program to create 15,000 entrepreneurs, fostering economic growth and innovation.

The theme focuses on empowering at least one entrepreneur from Grama Niladhari divisions, covering the entire country. The primary objective of this program is to establish and strengthen a total of 15,000 entrepreneurs within a year. These entrepreneurs will be involved in important sectors like fishing, farming, industries, and livestock. Each main entrepreneur will have a group of supporting entrepreneurs, helping to grow businesses in rural areas. The goal of this program is to strengthen the national economy by boosting local businesses and ensuring long-term growth.

In addition to providing credit facilities to entrepreneurs, the creation of a financially and knowledge-based entrepreneurial force is also achieved through the implementation of financial management and discipline, modern technological methods, new market opportunities, and essential training programs.

The launch of this program for the Western and North Western province took place on 14 February 2025, in Kalagedihena, under the leadership of the Deputy Minister of Industry and Entrepreneur Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe, with the invitation of the RDB Bank Chairman Lasantha Fernando, and the GM/Chief Executive Officer Janitha Priyashantha. During this event, a loan distribution of Rs. 500 million was carried out, covering 250 grama sewa divisions in the Western and North Western province.
